On June 15, with the initiative and support of Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician and HUTB Party Secretary, “Drum Dance · HUTB One Hundred People Beating Long Drum”, the initial achievements of Yao Long Drum Dance Project of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture Heritage Base under the Ministry of Education, was displayed in the campus of HUTB. More than 100 teachers and students from the School of Music, HUTB and the Yao Long Drum Dance Troupe of Central South University (CSU) participated in the event. Through broadcast exercises, Yao long drum resounded through the campus, adding another wonderful stroke to the campus music season of HUTB.
The event is the third special dancing event following “Seek Truth Through Dance” ambient dancing event and “Chufeng Night” dancing event. Professor Wu Yanyan, Yinzhi Expert of HUTB, acted as the chief director, and three dance teachers from the School of Music, namely Song Wei, Bai Zhihua and Li Shilei, acted the executive director.
Based on Yao long drum dance, “Drum Dance · HUTB One Hundred People Beating Long Drum” incorporates dance into environment, achieving a conversion between campus scenery and long drum dance. The event represents a beneficial attempt to “bring intangible cultural heritage to college campuses and contemporary college students”. It is the long drum meditation of Imagination Gallery, the drum melody in front of the school plate of HUTB, and the flying drum dance on the stadium. Such demonstration makes the intangible cultural heritage vivid, aesthetic, interesting, and close to the campus cultural life. It gives an expression to HUTB’s positive attitudes towards preserving and innovating traditional intangible cultural heritage, and displays the high spirits of HUTB students.
